June Lake 2020: Back to the Basics

Going on vacation almost always leaves me feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.  The drive back from June Lake included the beautiful green meadows and majestic mountains of Yosemite National Park and sparkling blue water of the Merced River.  As we drove by this beautiful scenery, I reflected upon what it is about vacation that is so healing.  This vacation to June Lake for the 4th of July holiday, it was getting back to the basics.  I used my phone to take pictures but otherwise spent very little screen time checking emails, texts, or phone calls.  My family and I spent a whole day at the beach.  My kids played in the sand and made sandcastles, dug holes and splashed their feet in the water.   My husband went fishing on the shoreline.  I challenged myself to go paddle boarding for the first time and only fell a couple of times.  Paddle boarding is a good workout!  I said a silent prayer for my Uncle Bobby who passed away last week, as we walked the Parker Lake trail.  We ate simple meals, slept in a one-bedroom motel room, got plenty of sunshine and enjoyed talking with friends and family.  I am grateful for this five-day trip which taught me that getting back to the basics helps to simplify a sometimes complicated life.  How can you get back to the basics today?

  1. Sounds like a great time! Isn’t it wondrous how really living, simply, enjoying nature and each other is so heartfelt, so uplifting? I’m sure your Uncle Bobbie felt your peaceful prayer as you thought of him with love in your heart.

Technology is great, it can save time and open doors to many amazing things. Yet, spending time in nature, away from screens, beeping alerts, texts, email, even blogs, that is life in the best lane. These times seem to be teaching us all that slowing down is not a downward thrust, Instead it is an upward opening, one that puts a spotlight on quiet, listening,on nature, and on the awesomeness of a planet we often don’t even notice. Hopefully we’ll all begin to feel what it’s like to live and work in our amazing world while we stay “sheltered in place” within our heart of hearts,.. that place that really knows how to feel. hear and see.

  2. Hi Sweetie,

Am trying to post some blog comments. If they don’t fit for the blog’s message, please just ignore them. Often I am too mystical for mainstream thought. So, if you think the comment doesn’t fit, I will not be the least bit upset if you don’t post it. It is all fine. If you like it and it goes with your message, great… if not, that’s great too!. I want to support you, but my way of thinking is “unique” … good for me, but not always palatable to others. Please, only post it if you like it. Really, I won’t feel censored if you ctrl delete 😀.LOL Love you!

  3. Dear Jennifer,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Uncle Bob. Loss is never easy; it’s a bittersweet reminder of how much we love. When we love, we can also feel such pain. Yet, you are able to stop a moment to dwell on the gifts of your recent vacation. What matters most? Spending time with our loved ones, so yes you have your priorities straight! I loved hearing about the rest of your vacation out in Nature. Your children have wonderful parents who give them these precious memories that included other family members and friends.

    Love,
    Nana Sue

    1. Thank you Nana. Yes I remember a quote that more or less said the pain you feel when you lose someone is equal to the amount of love you felt. Losing a loved one is never easy and also a reminder to cherish the time we have with the ones we love in the here and now. I am blessed to have the friends and family I have in my life and grateful for the memories of those I have lost. Thank you for commenting and sharing.
